Reebok taps beloved artist Jean-Michel Basquiat for its latest “Affili’Art” collection of sneakers, a program that looks to fuse the worlds of art and fashion. Arguably Andy Warhol’s most talented protegee, Basquiat’s iconic neo-expressionist scribblings are screen printed onto the uppers of several of Reebok’s more popular silhouettes, including Classic Leather, Workout Mid, Ex-O-Fit, Freestyle and Princess models. The sneakers are premium versions of their regular shoes, meaning high-end leathers and other lux materials are used in their construction. Basquiat holds a dear place in many an art fan’s heart, as beloved for his paintings as his personality — this was, after all, a guy who once admitted “I had some money, I made the best paintings ever. I was completely reclusive, worked a lot, took a lot of drugs. I was awful to people.” Another favorite: “I don’t think about art when I’m working, I try to think about life.” Good stuff. The Jean-Michel Basquiat x Reebok “Affili’Art” Sneaker Collection can be found now only at Reebok Reserve stockists and boutiques.
